In earlier versions of Vault, there was a limit to the size of file that can be downloaded from the Vault Server. Since Vault 2009, this is no longer the case. When a client requests a file that is larger than 50MB, the server will split the file into 50MB chunks and then send that to the client. The client will then stitch the chunks back together before the file appears on the local workspace and is available for use.
If you see this error in the vlogs, after Vault 2009, to trouble shoot it you can try using Repair on .NET Framework and the Microsoft WSE components on either the client or the server or both.
You should also ensure that the latest update patches are applied to both the client and the server.
