Vault Client - Open error

After selecting a file in the vault client and double clicking on it or RMB>Open, you see the following message:-

"This file was created with Inventor. We cannot find this application on your computer."

 

This can happen if another program has become associated with Inventor assembly files. In this situation, the message was caused by Importing an Inventor file into Autodesk Showcase 2012, which although is not a Qualifying CAD Application for Vault, it is still a part of the Product Design Suite.

The workaround is to close the Vault Client and Inventor and re-start Inventor. This will re-register Inventor with the Operating System.

How To... Disable The "Change Order List" and "Item Master" Nodes

If you need to disable the Item and Change Order nodes in the Vault client, this is possible by going Tools>Administration>Vault Settings. Then click the Change Orders Tab. Then set the Radio buttons to "No"

Serious Issues like Performance and/or Crashing of the Vault Client

This is a reminder as we constantly receive this kind of requests.

Issue which appears suddenly on all workstations: the Vault Client Application is either crashing (usually after a few Minutes working with the Vault) or you experience serious performance issues.

Root of the issue is that the IT department introduced a proxy Server in the company. Usually a specific proxy script is introduced.

Solution: Make sure you configured the proxy Server as described in the Vault Wiki.

If you need to have a specific proxy script running it is your responsibility to configure it properly that it bypasses all requests about the communication between the Vault Server and the Vault Clients.

Undocumented Restore Switches

It is possible to use the command line to restore a Vault backup.

To restore the Data and log (mdf and ldf) SQL Database files to different locations you can use the -T and -TL switches.

Example

Connectivity.ADMSConsole.exe -Orestore -BC:\TESTBACKUP\BACKUP -VUadministrator -VP -TLC:\TESTBACKUP\Log -TC:\TESTBACKUP\Data

Where Can I Download Vault Server 2012 from?

You may have noticed that when you install Product Design Suite or Factory Design Suite 2012, that they don't contain Vault Server 2012.

The installer includes only the Vault client application of Autodesk Vault 2012. To get the Vault Server application you need to run the installer and you will see the blue circle icon with an "i". If you hover over that icon you will see a message fly out as shown below.

adlmPITSetProductInformation failed

When you install Vault Server you can get this error

In the Autodesk Vault x 201x(Server) install.log file, if you search for "return value 3" (a value indicating an install error in and MSI log file), immediately before that value you will see this message...

MSI (s) (AC!E8) [11:11:24:450]: Product: Autodesk Vault Collaboration 2012 (Server) -- 1: 5 2: adlmPITSetProductInformation failed. 3: 13

CustomAction adlmInstSetProductInformation returned actual error code 1603 (note this may not be 100% accurate if translation happened inside sandbox)

 This happens because the wrong Product Key was entered.

You can obtain the correct Product Key by navigating to the root folder of the Vault Server installation. In there will be a file called MID*.txt (* because it differs depending on the version of Vault). If you open the file in Notepad you will see the following

The Product Key is the first five digits of the Part Numebr highlighted above. If you use this, you should be able to get past this error.

 

Auto Numbering Not Working for Inventor Drawings and Presentation Files?

You notice that although you have configured a Custom Numbering Scheme within the Vault Client, it doesn't seem to work for Drawings and Presentation files (.idw, .dwg, & .ipn).

By default, when you create these files, they will assume the name of the model file. So if you create a new file and the Custom Numbering Scheme creates the file name of 10001.iam, when you create a drawing from that file, it will give it the same prefix of 10001.idw.

However, if you need your Drawings a nd presentation files to use the Custom Numbering Scheme as well you will need to enable the "Generate file numbers for drawings and presentation files" in the Vault options. (see image below)

Error 155 When Trying To Assign Item

When trying to Assign Item in Vault Professional 2012 on a file, you can sometimes get this message:-

This can occur when the files in question were processed and checked in by Inventor 2012's Task Scheduler. Addressing this issue is a two stage process. The first stage was to make a code change in Vault 2012 Update 1. The second stage involves a Hotfix for Inventor 2012 Update1.(DL18091334)

For files that have already been affected the solution is to either check the files out manually in Inventor rebuild\dirty them so that you get a new version in Vault when you check them back in again. Then re-assign Item.

When trying to export Items from Vault Professional, you see this message
